Future SkyTeam Members
On November 30, 2010, during a ceremony held in Buenos Aires, Aerolíneas Argentinas signed its adherence to SkyTeam and agreed to complete the joining process in 2012. Aerolíneas will be SkyTeam's first South American member. By joining the alliance, Aerolíneas Argentinas will extend SkyTeam's network in South America adding 38 new destinations including Córdoba, Mendoza, Asunción and Montevideo to SkyTeam's current extensive network. With Buenos Aires serving as a South American hub with flights to and from key destinations in the region, SkyTeam customers will benefit from improved access to the southern part of South America and Patagonia in particular, popular destinations with travelers from all over the world. This new partner will also be the first SkyTeam carrier to fly non-stop from South America to New Zealand and Australia, increasing travel possibilities with the Round the World pass.
Also, in 2010, China Airlines and Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia's flag carrier, have officially announced their interest to join SkyTeam. China Airlines, the largest carrier in Taiwan, is expecting to complete the joining process by mid-2011, while Garuda Indonesia, has signed the pre-adherence act to join SkyTeam in 2012.
