People with disabilities/reduced mobility

Medical clearance is granted by TAROM Medical Unit, in one of the following cases:

• You are travelling with a stretcher or incubator,
• You need oxygen therapy,
• You have a contagious disease,

Medical clearance granted by TAROM Medical Unit is also required if you fit in one of the following categories:

• Cardiovascular or other Circulatory disorders,
• Blood disorders,
• Respiratory disorders,
• Central Nervous System disorders,
• Gastro-intestinal disorders,
• ENT disorders (Ear, Nose and Throat),
• Psychiatric illness,
• Eyes disorders (injury and/or surgery),
• Pregnancy,
• Neonates (new born),
• After Radionuclide Therapy,
• Chemotherapy,
• Orthopedic surgery and cast,
• Communicable disease,
• Plastic surgery,
• Terminal illness.

Should any of the above cases concerns you, for your own safety, you will need a medical clearance before you begin your journey.

Please, submit your medical clearance request at the time of booking but no later than 48 hours before your departure. Please contact any TAROM Agency, TAROM Call Center or your travel agent for further details.

Provided you’ve been granted a medical clearance, you may still be required to be accompanied by another person.

We inform you that the WCHR service is unavailable on flights to and from Frankfurt. Please request WCHS service instead of WCHR service.

Carriage of mobility aids on board for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) (In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2006)

To ensure appropriate services for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), we are providing information regarding the carriage of mobility aids, such as crutches, walkers, canes, and other similar equipment.

1. Classification of passengers with reduced mobility (PRM)

Passengers are classified into different categories based on the level of assistance required (e.g., independent movement with a cane/walker, use of a wheelchair, need for assistance boarding/deplaning, etc.). Correct classification is essential for planning appropriate assistance at the airport and on board aircraft.

2. Devices Accepted for Carry-On (Form 4113 Not Required)

The following devices are accepted, at no additional cost, as medical/mobility equipment:

• Crutches,
• Walking frames
• Canes (including white canes for the blind)
• Rollators (with or without wheels, with or without a seat)
• Other mobility aids

These may be carried in the cabin, provided safety requirements and available space are met. Equipment must be positioned so as not to obstruct aisles or emergency exits.

3. Other devices for reduced mobility (Form 4113 must be submitted)

For additional equipment (e.g., manual or electric wheelchairs, battery-powered devices, special medical equipment), prior notification and the provision of relevant technical information (battery type, dimensions, weight, etc.) are required, in accordance with applicable regulations.

For devices powered by lithium-ion batteries or other special types, additional requirements regarding packaging and handling will apply.

4. Form 4113

For the transport of certain medical equipment or special devices, it is mandatory to complete Form 4113. This must be submitted within the timeframe set by the airline for evaluation and prior approval.

5. Operational Requirements

• Notification must be made at least 48 hours prior to departure.
• Devices must be foldable or properly secured.
• The equipment must not compromise flight safety or the comfort of other passengers.
• Airport and cabin crew will provide the necessary assistance according to the confirmed PRM category.

By following these procedures, we ensure safe, efficient, and internationally compliant transportation for all passengers with reduced mobility.

6. Please note that

“Your mobility aid is accepted free of charge in accordance with European regulations. If cabin space is limited, we will transport it safely in the aircraft hold and you will receive it immediately after landing.”

7. Labeling

• If it goes in the cabin → DO NOT tag it as checked baggage.
• If it goes in the hold → apply a “Delivery at Aircraft” (DAA) or “Limited Release” tag, in accordance with Tarom’s procedure (see PHM).

If your mobility is reduced as a result of a disability, temporary or permanent, that is motor, visual, hearing or mental based or due to your age or illness, TAROM engages to assist you throughout your entire journey in order to make your trip as comfortable as possible.

Should you require assistance at the airport or in the aircraft cabin, please download and fill in the form: Information Sheet for Passengers Requiring Special Assistance. The form must be submitted to any TAROM ticket office or your travel agent, preferably at the time of booking but no later than 48 hours before your departure. If you’ve performed the booking online, please submit your assistance request to TAROM Call Center no later than 48 hours before your departure.

For the safety of the disabled or reduced mobility passengers, you may be required the presence of a travel companion with the specific role of assisting in case of emergency or with basic needs (using the aircraft restrooms, feeding or taking medication, etc.).

A travel companion is required only in the following cases:

• If the passenger has a severe mental disability that prevents him or her from understanding and applying safety instructions.
• If the passenger is both blind and deaf, thereby preventing the possibility of communication with the crew.
• If the passenger needs special care or medical assistance during the flight.
• If the passenger, due to a disability is unable to feed himself or use the aircraft restroom independently.
• If the passenger is not physically capable of participating in an aircraft evacuation.

The travel companion must meet the following requirements:

• Must be over the age of 18.
• Must be able bodied and mentally fit.
• Must not take care of another person (e.g. a child, an infant or another person with reduced mobility).

All of our aircraft are equipped with foldable armrest seats. However, there are a limited number of seats dedicated for people with reduced mobility. Please check the availability of such seats when you make your booking.

For your safety, you cannot travel on an emergency exit row or on a row situated immediately in front and behind an emergency exit row.

For safety reasons, fully immobilized passengers requiring a wheelchair cannot be transported on flights operated by ATR aircraft.

For safety reasons, the number of completely immobilized (WCHC) and stretcher passengers is limited, based on the aircraft type as shown in the table below:

If you request a cabin wheelchair service while travelling alone, you must be able to take care of your needs in the aircraft restroom and at the seat (e.g. eating, medication or moving from your seat to the aircraft restroom). If you are unable to do so, you must be accompanied by another person of minimum 18 years of age capable of providing the required assistance.

Please, note that our aircraft are not equipped with wheelchair on board.

The table below shows the seat allocation for passengers with reduced mobility based on aircraft type, valid for all cabin configurations.

If you are an expectant mother there are several restrictions that may apply, based on the age of the pregnancy. Therefore, for your own safety, if you are expecting, please contact any TAROM Agency, TAROM Call Center or your travel agent and provide:

• The age of your pregnancy
• If you intend to travel alone with an infant
• If you have a multiple pregnancy.
